Entrecard Comment Link Love/Meme or whatever
Jan 5th, 2008 by Felix Alaita
Happy New Year everyone! Did I hear ‘belated’ nah! not with 360 days left. At the start of this new year 2008, I noticed in my blog hopping that a lot of bloggers are giving Link Love to those who dropped the most number of Entrecards on their blog. Hmm! What’s the logic?
My View (as Usual )
Well here’s my view. Dropping the highest number of Entrecards on my blog without even leaving one comment on any post or joining in my conversation to me is not beneficial to my blog growth on the long haul. Comments enable me to assess my post quality leading to improvement. Everyday I come across blogs with no comments at all to any post and I wonder if such bloggers would be happy enough to have someone drop ‘100 entrecards’ in their box instead of 100 comments. But then this is just my view. Comments to my posts here at 3rdworldblogger have improved by the day thanks to you all, giving me immense joy. In my last post, I hinted on making a list of interesting sites I find through Entrecard dropping/reading. I might be starting with one I saw that’d give you 10 Entrecard Credits for each comment you leave. Hmm…Does that prove my point? Well, this is just my way of sharing the love around. Am still working on that scheme so my hint still stands :).
Link Love My Way
So at variance with the Entrecard Top Dropper Link Love Scheme, today am giving Link Love to those who recently visited my blog, dropped a card and contributed to my conversation. In no particular order I give you these wonderful blogging pals. I suggest you join in the relationship building scheme
I’ve been giving a lot of link love lately, maybe I should just make a page for link love or better still my blogroll is empty… Hmm what to do? Suggestions anyone?

I really like the way you changed this meme around. I think I’ve been tagged with it to so maybe I will do something similar. Thanks for a good idea.
My best to you,
Alan
Thanks for the mention! And a great way of flipping the meme on it’s head.
Thanks for the link again! I think your link love version is better than just randomly rewarding people that run by and drop their card 200 times.
I don’t pay attention to how many times someone drops a card on me, but in the past I did a link love post for commenters and other websites I visit. I think it’s a nice way to say ‘thanks’.
nice way to share the wealth even though I am not in that list… yet
I stumbled over your blog via entrecard and got stuck with your blogname, good luck on achieve the 3. place in the blogworld. I am sure to check back here due to some great posts.
@Alan I try to have my own perspective on issues, thanks for the compliment and looking forward to your meme and a mention
@ Mike the pleasure was all mine. Just my way of saying thank you.
@ Tokio you surprised me when you dug out an old linkback from technorati and made a post of it. It was very kind of you. Most people won’t bother. So once more the pleasure was all mine.
@ Sven hmm keep checking back you never can tell there might be something else in the offing. Like I said, it feels good when people comment on your post, it enables growth in my opinion.
I love my blog name and really looking forward to making an impact with it by hitting that ‘3rd’ spot :d
You have a good point, but here’s another perspective to consider…I’ve had lots of people leave comments like “nice blog,” etc. in the past and it’s very hard to weed the genuine compliments out from the spammers who are just trying to drop a link. I thought EntreCard was a nice way to be able to let people I liked know that I had visited and enjoyed their site without leaving a “nice blog” comment that might look like just one more spam. And for what it’s worth, when I visit a site to drop a card, even if I don’t have a constructive comment I still take a good look around and I always have my Alexa toolbar loaded to give you that traffic ranking boost. So next time I visit and drop a card, that’s my way of saying “Hi” when I don’t have anything more useful to contribute.
I use Entrcard on my newest fun blog, but not on either of my other two blogs. I felt going in it was probably a good idea for a new blog to advertise - like a business card exchange, but see little value I it overall for a Blog which is established as the truth about it is though you may be lucky and get some readers on blogs which are personal or niche it is more about others trying to get people to read their blogs and some people do nothing but scroll it quickly all day long.
When I look at the blogs via Entrecard if I find one worth commenting I will but usually I am looking at them to see if it is somewhere I would want to advertise.
Others may use entrecard differently.
@ Tom - I totally agree with you, however, if all you keep saying is ‘hi’ with your entrecard and each time I look in my inbox and see it I also reciprocate, then I don’t see why I should also honour you with a ‘Top Dropper Award’. It’s not like am encouraging one sentence comments, but just that I’d rather reward those who feel compelled to join in my conversation with meaningful inputs, because that encourages me (the blogger) to write more since it assures me people are listening/reading.
@ Cooper - It’s not like I mind bloggers passing by in seconds and leaving their calling card (I don’t comment on all blogs I visit everyday), Its just that I feel a participant in my conversation as well is much better on the long haul.
btw ‘Thank you all for joining in this conversation :)’
Hi Felix! I appreciate the mention. There’s a lot more to networking and building relationships with other bloggers than just simple card dropping.
That being said, I admit to a few “hit and run” type card drops myself. While commenting on one and leaving my card, I then have used the advert link to check out the next one hoping to find something interesting. I’m disappointed to find some users of Entrecard having blogs with such outrageous language and highly sexual content, that I run as fast as possible.
Or, it turns out to be a blog with “posts” with no content at all except for large ad images. No content or conversation at all. Sorry, doesn’t appeal to me in the least. I wish Entrecard had a way of “flagging” some blogs with highly sexual content, or something that warns you ahead of time that it’s an “adult” site. Maybe Entrecard does that feature, but I haven’t found it yet.
Thanks for the link love.
I’m getting a something or rather 400 when I try to subscribe via your feedreader icon. I’ll add you to bloglines manually but thought I’d let you know in case it isn’t just me that’s having trouble.
Okay, bloglines can’t find a feed at your url either….
felix, you have to burn your feed using feedburner.com … if you’ve done that, then maybe it’s your theme….?
Very well put. I try to comment on at least one post when I visit a blog via entrecard, even though it takes sometime it is all about adding value to the community - great post, stumbled.
your rss feed works again! ^_^
@Lin - I totally agree with you Lin, no content - drop and run. Sexual content - hover! drop and run
(They really should have indicators ;)). I don’t think Entrecard has that feature yet. Or does anyone know if they do?
Relationship building is my search and am happy to include you.
@ Lightening - Eureka! I fixed it (or rather Billy did :)) You can now register. Thank you very much.
@ Billy Grady - The pleasure was all mine pal.
@ Evil Woobie - RSS Fixed thank you!
@ Nick - Thanks for your comment AND stumble. Really appreciate it.
@ Jamaipanese - Yes my RSS is finally back and I have Billy Grady to thank for helping me out there. I hope you registered
Hey I stopped I paused I read your post. I then used the links to continue on my merry dropping frenzy.
Have a great day.
Not-a-Carnival: Getting the Most Out of EntreCard…
The latest rage among bloggers is the EntreCard, a social network in the form of an online business card that you can “drop” at the sites of other member bloggers. The card appears on your blog as a 125×125 pixel ad with a “Drop…
Entrecard has been good as far as hits and I have sent a lot of people to other sites, but not a huge increase in comments. It would be nice to generate more.
You seem to do pretty well.
Thanks. I am now a subscriber.
BTW - I like your thinking re entrecard. My major concern with it is that if too many bloggers operate on a drop and run plan, the whole program won’t really work. I’m trying to make a point of actually looking at blogs I visit to card drop on. Some are of no interest whatsoever to me so I don’t leave a comment. If I have something to say, I say it. If I like the blog, I’ll subscribe so that I can read it for a while and see if being a regular reader suits me. I was also stumbling the occasion post but need to install the stumbleupon toolbar in my new browser (just switched to firefox) so I can return to doing this. I do believe you get out what you put in.
Ultimately we all want more than cards - but we can’t demand it. I think telling people you want comments is a great step forward - and everyone should not necessarily encourage comments, but think about what they really want and what they could encourage people to do that might help.
I agree with most of your remarks about leaving comments. It definitely is a great indication of whether your content has had some effect on the reader. Also, I don’t mind the “nice blog” comments. It is still someone taking the time to give a shout out….
Where’s the love for me???? Haha just dropping by to say hi man. Keep up good blog work.
Have to agree with you there… 100 comments is much more valuable than 100 Entrecard drops.
In a never ending quest for more readership to our blogs, the new ways that people are promoting are ingenious.
Thanks
I dropped my card! And I just wrote a post in which I encouraged my readers to please leave comments
Everyone likes comments, but I believe getting traffic, even if it doesn’t comment, is better than nothing at all. It is up to the writer of the blog to get the chain dropper’s attention. This article basically sums up my thoughts: http://controversialmarketing.blogspot.com/2008/01/entrecarders-chaindrop-my-site-please.html
